  Ingredients: 2 cups red lentils 1 cup rice 1 1/2 onion 4 cloves garlic Ginger to preference 1 tsp garam masala (can substitute with other curry powders) 1 tsp cumin 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp cardamom 1 tsp tumerick 4 cups veg stock 1 can coconut milk 1 can stewed tomatoes Naan and sour cream as sides Instructions: Put 1 cup rice, 2 cups water in rice cooker or put in sauce pan and set to low Chop 1 1/2 onions, 4 cloves garlick, and ginger Add 1 1/2 onions to sauce pan, heating until semitranslucent Add garlic and ginger, cook until fragrant Add 1 tsp each of garam masala, cumin, paprika, cardamom, and turmerick. Mix and cook for 1 min Add 4 cups veg stock and 2 cups red lentils. Cook for 10 min Add 1 can stewed tomatoes and 1 can coconut milk. Thompson Family Broccoli Salad

  Ingredients: 1 bunch broccoli 1/2 cup chopped red onion 1 cup grated cheddar 1/2 cup cunflower seeds Miracle whip, enough to combine 1/2 cup bacon bits (optional) Instructions: Finely chop 1 bunch broccoli and 1/2 cup red onion. Grate 1 cup cheddar Add broccoli, red onion, cheddar, 1/2 cup sunflower seeds, and optional 1/2 cup bacon bits to mixing bowl Mix, adding enough miracle whip to make everything stick together Yield: Enough for a potluck Source: My mother-in-law Description: This is one that Lee-Anne made. She did it for a potluck that my organization was hosting. It went over well, and by the end of the evening the entire salad had been consumed.   Ingredients: Okra (I used 1 cup) Cornmeal (about 1/2 cup) Bacon/bacon drippings (12 strips) Salt and pepper to taste Instructions: In a frying pan, heat up bacon dripping. If needed, fry bacon for grease. For the quantity in this recipe, 1 pack of 12 should do Remove stems and cut 1 cup of okra into rounds, about 1/2 inch long Roll okra in 1/2 cup cornmeal and add to pan Fry until browned and drain on paper towel Sprinkle with salt and pepper to preference Yield: A cup of okra Source: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe Tips: The orginal recipe was intentionally written in the vague way that someone who knows their way around a kitchen and only needs a few reminders would.   Ingredients 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts 1 lb sausage. Chef's choice is andouille sausage, we substituted with Polish sausage 1 lb shrimp (used about half a bag) 2 tbsp cajun seasoning 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes 1 cooking onion 2 bell peppers 2 ribs celery 1 jalapeno pepper 4 cloves garlic 1 cup okra 1 1/2 cups long grain white rice 15 oz crushed tomato (about half a standard can where we're from) 3 cups chicken stock Cooking oil Directions: Prep work: chop 2 chicken breasts, 1 lb sausage, and deveinn 1 lb shrimp. Dice 1 onion, 2 bell peppers, 4 cloves garlic. Slice 2 ribs celery, 1 jalapeno pepper, 1 cup okra Heat a little bit of cooking oil in a large saucepan.
