Irish Stew

  Ingredients: 2 lbs stewing beef 3 tbsp all-purpose flour 2 cooking onions 3 cloves garlic (1 tbsp, or to preference) 4 med potatoes 2 large carrots 2 ribs celery 1 large parsnip 1 can Guinness (440 ml) 1 cup beef broth 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1/4 cup tomato paste 1 tsp thyme 1 tsp rosemary 1 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp black pepper Instructions: In a bowl, mix together 3 tbsp flour, 1 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper (or whatever ratio you like) Heat up some oil in the bottom of a large saucepan Coarsely chop 2 onions, 4 potatoes, 2 carrots, 2 ribs celery, 1 parsnip and mince garlic Toss 2 lb stewing beef in flour mixture and put into heated saucepan slowly, never overcrowding the bottom of the pan Brown but don't cook through the pieces of beef and set aside Put chopped onion into saucepan, adding oil if necessary, and cook for about 10 min Add minced garlic and cook for another minute Add the rest of the vegetables (potatoes, carrots, celery, parsnip) and cook for another 5 m...

  Ingredients: 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp salt 1 1/2 cups buttermilk Directions: Preheat oven to 425 F In large bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 2 tsp salt Add in 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, stir until it comes together Knead and add flour until no longer sticky Form a ball, cut an "X" into the top and put on a baking sheet. She's also where I got my frybread recipe from, so it seems she has a specialty in simple, no-yeast baking recipes that have an option of raisins that I'll never include. Other recipes were a bit more complex with additional ingredients like sugar, butter, baking powder, and an egg mixed into the dough, but I wouldn't bother making it much more complicated than this.
